Ornate Ceilings
A Simple (cheap and cheerful) Way To Make Ornate Ceilings.
Decorating the inside of your house is not so much difficult as awkward, especially
if it involves ornate ceilings, inlaid flooring or wall panelling, and it is always wise to do as much of this type of work outside of the house. This tip we discovered in a magazine some time ago
we hope you find it useful. In our sample we have created a ceiling using bits and bobs you can
find around the house (which are good enough to practice with), measuring about 6"x5".
- What you need:
- Thin card and whatever you want to decorate your ceiling with - just remember to keep mouldings lightweight.
- What you do:
- Cut a template out of the card which fits the ceiling exactly.
- On the side which will show, draw the design leaving a border to enable coving to be added later. Remember to mark the position of any light fittings.
- You can now stick mouldings or picturs to the card, or use coloured paints, the choice is yours. You can really go to town with your designs.
- Once you're happy with your ceiling and it's dried out then you can stick it in place inside your house.
- If your ceiling is very big or heavy you might want to cut it into sections before sticking it in place.
- Now you can finish off with the coving - better to paint it first.
We have used lolly sticks, skewers, card from a cake box, flower shaped buttons, pictures from a magazine, a link from an old chain belt, white and gold paint.
